AYSA’s Arizona Avenue complex started out in 2004 with a donated industrial/brownfield site. The original site was reclaimed through efforts of volunteers and generous donations from AYSA families, the US Environmental Protection Agency, the  Robert W. Woodruff, Arthur M. Blank Family, Atlanta Falcons Youth, and US Soccer Foundations.

Industrial wasteland - before field construction

The complex now boasts wonderful turf, a state of the art drainage system, 6 permanent lights, a storage and concession building and a well for year round unrestricted water.

Our roadmap to deliver a better player, family and coach experience at Arizona includes future field projects which can be broken into four main components: 1) a covered pavilion 2) the final two lights 3) a clubhouse with restrooms and 4) a paved driveway to the parking lot.

The first project will be the covered pavilion to provide shade as well as picnic tables for players, parents, teams and families. The pavilion will compliment the future clubhouse and be a central gathering area for game days and practices, especially on those sweltering summer days at camp! The projected cost for the pavilion is $34,000.00. Fortunately, an AYSA parent and the builder of the Arizona Avenue sidewalk, has generously offered to donate his skills and employees to construct the site labor free. Additional funding will be provided through the local sponsorship program, in kind donations and other gifts.

The second project will be the installation of the last two sports field light poles, which is projected to cost $52,000.00. We already have six of the eight poles installed and working. This will complete the effort to light the entire complex for nighttime practices as well as game play.

The third project will be the clubhouse, which will be AYSA headquarters and the centerpiece of the complex.  Keeping the clubhouse plans simple and functional, the building is designed to blend into the site, provide meeting space for approximately 50 people, three private offices, a small break area and male/female restrooms. The building has been designed by Randy Pimsler of Pimsler-Hoss Architects.  His unique understanding of our club has translated into real world concepts that help maintain our special “intown” soccer atmosphere. The building will follow environmentally green guidelines including a high efficiency HVAC system, low flow toilets, insulation and rainwater reclamation. Additionally, modifications will be made to the existing concession building on the site to allow for improved concession services. These modifications include plumbing, electrical and storage improvements. Plans will be posted to the AYSA website as soon as the final design has been approved by the Board and the City of Atlanta. Projected cost for the building and concession stand improvements is $322,000.00 with funding undetermined at this time.  The fourth and final project will be a paved driveway to make entry and exit of the main parking lot much easier and safer.  A neat driveway will provide a ”finishing touch” to the complex. The expected cost for the paving is $20,000.00.

With over $400,000.00 needed to complete these projects, we are working hard to develop a fundraising strategy and related campaign(s).  If you have fundraising experience, fundraising ideas or just enthusiasm about helping AYSA finish the project, please contact our Executive Director, Jenn Walters at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

P.S. Those who would like to donate to any of the four projects above may send contributions to: AYSA P.O. Box 133126, Atlanta, GA 30333.
